  • Thursday 21 November 2024 Year 3 / 4 Trip We had an amazing day at Compton Verney and we were so lucky with the weather! Linda took us on a journey through the woods to our Stone Age camp where we made wattle and daub fences by weaving willow, made stone age bread by grinding barley with rocks and mixing with oats and water, built shelters, explored a cave of artefacts and lit our own fires with flint and steel (not quite as the Stone Age people would have done it with flint and flint!). We had a great day getting a taste of what life would have been like all those thousands of years ago.

  • Thursday 17 October 2024 Maple Life Ed We had a great Life Education session with Tom. He taught us all about what’s inside our bodies and what we need to stay alive (water, oxygen, sleep, food and exercise). We then thought about the things that we needed to stay happy and healthy and the importance of time to connect with others. We met Harold the giraffe and went with him on a screen free day with his friends to the theme park. At the theme park, we blasted off on a rocket to space where we met a strange race of aliens where all of them were exactly the same. We decided that life is much better when everyone is unique and when we celebrate our differences!

She spent the day online making a new best friend called Jenny, posting information and pictures about herself, exploring websites and being unkind to a girl called Ava on ‘FriendsFace’.
  • Wednesday 12 June 2024 Oak -Sunscreen Investigation Last week we had a visit from Mrs Lewis, a science teacher from the Cotswold School. She brought some exciting resources for us to use. We were given a beaker each, then had to count out ten special beads into our beaker. We covered the beaker in cling film then spread either nothing, moisturiser or sun-cream over the clingfilm. Mrs Lewis then shone UV light from a special torch through the clingfilm onto the beads. After ten seconds, we took the clingfilm off and looked at our beads. Some had turned dark purple and pink! We had to count how many beads had changed colour. In the beakers covered in nothing or moisturiser, approximately 7 beads had changed colour. In the beakers covered in sun-cream, only 1 or 2 had changed . It was very obvious how important it is to wear sun-cream.
  • Tuesday 11 June 2024 Sunscreen Experiment We were very lucky to have two teachers from The Cotswold School come into our school to perform an experiment with the children. We were investigating how to protect our skin from ultra violet light. We used special beads that changed colour when they were exposed to sunlight and created a skin-like barrier using cling film. We then covered the cling film with either moisturiser, sunscreen or nothing at all. When an ultra violet light was shone on each pot, we counted how many beads changed colour. Everything was kept exactly the same to make sure it was a fair test. The results were very clear- we need to wear sunscreen, even on a cloudy day.

  • Wednesday 8 May 2024 Oak - Geography in the Garden Oak Class have been looking at aerial views of the school garden using Google Earth. We were surprised how little you can see from a bird's eye view - just lots of trees. We decided to go to the garden to see what you can see from a ground level view and used observational drawings to record our favourite things.
  • Monday 29 April 2024 Language Day at The Cotswold School We really enjoyed our trip to The Cotswold School for the Year 4 Language Day! Some of us played Boules, some of us built Eiffel Towers out of spaghetti and all of us learnt how to Salsa dance! The organiser of the day commented on how beautifully behaved and polite the children from Northleach were. Well done, Year 4!
